Kaupo is located on Maui’s Southeast Shore. Kaupo sits in between Kipahulu and Ulupalakua. You may pass it if you take the road less traveled to Hana heading out from Ulupalakua. Kaupo is a small desolate rugged valley with a lot of vacant ranch land and is populated mostly with Paniolos (Hawaiian for Cowboys). There is one store, Kaupo Store, a church and some hiking and camping spots within Haleakala National Park such as Kaupo Gap.
